Fashion For Women : Items For Spring 2011

One of the biggest fashion trends for spring this year is the 1970s look, which has made a huge comeback. You can take the look one of two ways and either go for the 70’s boho, hippy chick look or you can opt for a more sophisticated 70s look – think Bianca Jagger at Studio 54. The first look involves lots of smocks, peasant blouses and fabrics such as macramé and crochet. The more glamorous look sees high waisted pants, shimmering maxi dresses and exotic jumpsuits back in fashion.

Another popular trend for this spring is the punk inspired look and the biker chick look which cross over in style territory to some extent. Punk detailing like zips, studding and safety pins were seen on jackets and t-shirts and leather is once again popular in trousers, jackets and even dresses. The biker look will see lots of quilted leather in jackets and trousers in the shops and details such as zip and buckle sleeves. Biker boots are also popular for the spring. The look is skinny, sleek and tailored however rather than grungy.

A very feminine look for the spring takes inspiration from the 1950s and 1960s. Ladylike chic is a hot look for spring with fitted dresses that accentuate curves and highlight femininity. If the hourglass look isn’t for you full circle skirts and dresses are also popular for this spring. Kitten heeled shoes compliment this look perfectly and were hot news on the catwalks for this season. They are certainly easier to walk in than the sky-high heels that have been popular for several seasons and the kitten heel sandal is a strong look for spring.

The nautical look in the form of navy and white and blue and white stripes is a trend that seems to come back year upon year. It’s a great look for spring and can take you from the cooler months of spring to the warmer months of summer. Other popular prints for this season include floral styles seen as either bold prints or as small sprig-like delicate prints and animal prints such as leopard and zebra.

The bold and the brave can try out a playsuit or jumpsuit if they should wish this season. Playsuits are the shorter, cuter version of a jumpsuit and look good when worn with flat sandals or with tights underneath during the cooler spring months. Jumpsuits fit in nicely with this season’s 1970s trend and make for a glamorous evening outfit when paired with high heels and glitzy accessories.

If all the 70s inspired wide leg pants and flared jeans aren’t your style then you will be happy to hear that slim fitting Capri pants and cigarette pants are another popular trend for this spring. Lengths vary with some Capri pants being longer and cropped just above the ankle however traditional three quarter length Capri pants are also a strong look for this season.
