Every time I get together with my best friend he never shuts up. He’s permanently talking about something. I’m the kind of person who enjoys conversation but this man’s a motor mouth. Everyday it’s something different. He actually just got himself hooked up to the Internet. This guy’s is almost thirty and he’s just starting to delve into performing research on the net. What did he ever do in college? Anyhow, he was rambling on about one thing or another he read off a site or two when he started talking about the men’s tungsten wedding band on my appendage. He started telling me about how bad of a choice I made with tungsten and how cobalt is such a way better alternative. I didn’t want to hear it; who, ever wants to hear about how bad of a decision they made. Unfortunately for my sake though; he was totally right about tungsten carbide.
He had been browsing Wikipedia and a few other educational websites when he stumbled onto information about the ring I chose. This opened up the flood gates. Links, videos, data; loads of of sites and anecdotes about tungsten to prove it he opened up his favorites and showed me all the links himself. I watched the videos and read the information but I wanted to shrug it off. I didn’t want to believe I was sold a cheap bill of goods.
There were two main points about men’s tungsten wedding band that I’m not going to forget. The first one is that tungsten carbide isn’t even really a metal; it’s a ceramic. It being a ceramic also signifies that it’s brittle. Sure; it’s not going to scratch on you but a hard hit on something and tungsten could break in two.
The second point is that it can’t even be cut off your finger in an emergency as with a normal ring. Instead a specific tool is needed to crack the ring off the finger. The bad thing is that not every hospital always carries this specific tool. If you find yourself in a medical emergency in the wrong hospital it’s quite possible that they won’t be able to cut the ring off in time.
All in all; I found out my friend was basically right. A few weeks later like a bad movie, I dropped my tungsten ring and it cracked in two. I told my wife and she was disappointed to say the least. The rings are considered a sacred element to our union. With the destruction of what symbolizes our love comes into question the partnership itself. If we can’t choose a ring that won’t break, what other poor decisions have been made?
