Must we still observe the Lord's sabbath or are we free to choose our own day of worship? What does the Bible say?

For many years, people have been going back and forth on what day is the right day of rest. Yet, the answer is quite clear and unchangeable when you simply go back and visit the word of God, which is found in none other than the holy bible. Many people have their opinions on this matter, but the bible does make it clear. Before we even begin this topic, there is something that I must remind you. God says if we love him than we will follow his commandments. For so long so many people have been following what “man” has established and have completely forgotten about what God asks of us. So let’s go back and look at the word of God to see what he says about the day in which we should rest in him.

The Sabbath was established since the very beginning, Genesis 2:2 says, By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested [a] from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

If you pick up any calendar and look at the days of the week, you will see that the first day of the week is Sunday and the seventh day is Saturday.

In the laws given to Moses, what we know as the 10 commandments God also reminded us again the day in which he has asked us to rest, let’s take a look : Exodus 20:8

8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

You see God was already aware that people would forget about what day he had asked them to rest on, which is why he placed it as his 4th commandment. No where in the bible has God asked anyone to keep another day holy. If you can find it let us know!

When Jesus walked this earth, he also worshipped on a specific day, as we all know Jesus was a Jew and he attended the synagogue during the Sabbath, still observing the day that was set from the very beginning of time.

“And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.” Luke 4:16.Many people even bring up the argument on whether the 10 commandments have been changed or abolished?Well let’s take a look at what the bible tells us:Jesus says: “And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.” Luke 16:17. God says: “My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.” Psalms 89:34. Notice, the Ten Commandments came from His lips.So you see, according to the bible we see that God hasn’t established any other day to keep holy but the Sabbath day.We will continue to discuss this topic further…Trust me when I say there is so much more to come.
