Men’s Fashion – Advice From A Fashion Expert

Keeping up with the latest fashion trends is not easy. Every month there seems to be new styles and cuts that warrants many of us to regularly change our wardrobes to keep up with the times. Occasionally we get lucky and some styles come back into fashion after a short amount of time, but normally the full circle takes at least a few years, by which time we have already got rid of our old clothes and bought new styles of clothing to take their place.

As with every year, this year will see certain retro styles return and new styles introduced. One style that may be difficult to swallow for some is the influx of floral designs and feminine style into men’s fashion lines, plus the return of American ‘prep school’ styles previously worn by the affluent ‘nerds’ of the 1950s and 60s. Some of the most popular design styles of this year are detailed below.

Leather jackets are making a big comeback. Well, that is not strictly true as leather jackets never seem to truly go out of fashion; they just linger around, occasionally popping back to the forefront for a brief spot at the top, then drop back to let other styles shine. Particularly hot this coming year is the bomber style jacket which has been seen gracing the big catwalks of late with minor modernizations from the top designers.

One more comeback this year is the blazer which seems to be taking over the catwalks of recent months. Blazers have now moved away from strictly formal wear to informal, casual wear that can be worn, it seems, almost anywhere at any time. These jackets currently look best in light pastel colors such as yellow, beige and green.

Ok, this statement may be met with some surprise but it has to be mentioned. Crop-tops are in for spring and summer 2011. No, that is not a misprint and no, this is not a recurring female fashion style. Although technically not crop tops as such, more of a much shortened t-shirt, fashion designers are using this feminine influence on men’s fashion trends and taking it to a level that many men may not be comfortable with, especially if they do not have the abs to show off.

In terms of colors, with the more formal outfits there is a trend towards the pastel colors and solid blocks of color, usually with only one neutral accent color such as a black, grey or white. With the winter collections that are now being shown, there is a move back to strong colors, especially red which has been used a lot by some designers.
