This Is A Super Food!

Unfortunately, it’s not just the children who aren’t eating broccoli. Most adults refrain from eating broccoli on a regular basis, also. But, let me explain a little something. Broccoli is a super food for a good reason(s). It not only can help shed that unwanted weight but will also replete your body with necessary nutrients. Broccoli ranks number one for its nutrient content, anti-oxidant qualities, anti-carcinogenic powers and the amount of fiber it contains. But, wait, there’s more (all for the low price of one serving a day)! It is very rich in vitamin C and carotenoids, contains protein, B vitamins, phosphorus, potassium, and calcium and moon dust (okay, maybe not the last one). Whew, take a breath. Okay, here we go again. Broccoli has ample amounts of chromium – the mineral that protects us against hyperinsulinemia, obesity, and diabetes. One half cup of broccoli contains 11 mcg’s of chromium which is almost half of the recommended daily allowance. Fiber and antioxidants in broccoli have a detoxifying and slimming effect. Just like other vegetables of the cabbage family, broccoli contains glutathione, indoles, and quercitins – the compounds with strong anti-carcinogenic qualities, which can prevent the developments of ovarian, colon, lung, and breast cancers. Broc really does rock! Fiber and antioxidants in broccoli have a detoxifying and slimming effect. Pound some before dinner because increasing fiber intake gives a feeling of fullness to the stomach which will force you to eat less. It is also a piece of ca…vegetable to cook. Cut the flowerets into chunks and steam for several minutes, or until broccoli has changed its color into bright green. Enjoy with just a touch of butter. Nummer-nummer good for the tummer.

If you just can’t force the stuff down, try it with a healthy dip.

Here are 2 to try. You may change to suit your taste(s). Just don’t add mayo or other fattitives.

Sour Cream Dip Ingredients:

1 cup of sour cream
1 TBS of finely chopped onion
1 tsp of dill weed
1 tsp of seasoned salt
2 tsp of parsley flakes
Cottage Cheese Dip Ingredients:

1 cup of large or small curd cottage cheese
1 cup of freshly chopped parsley
1/2 cup of chopped green onion
1/3 cup of drained capers
2 hard-boiled eggs (chopped)
2 minced or pressed cloves of garlic
1 TBS lemon juice
1/4 tsp of tabasco sauce (optional)
Don’t ruin a good thing with bad. Stay away from the high fat and high calorie dips. Go with home made low calorie dipping sauces or just plain.

Remember, you are the only you, you have. So, take care of you.
