I'm in love with my best friend and she doesn't know it yet!

Here is what one of our readers submitted and he would like to have your help in figuring out what he should do.

Dear TTWTA,

I have been friends with my best friend now for 12 years, we met in the seventh grade in a math class. We started out hating each other of course but when we got paired up for a class project we have been inseperable ever since. She has been my everything. When we graduated from highschool we did end up going to seperate colleges, but that never stopped us from keeping in touch, we would always go out of our way to go and see each other. While my best friend was in college though she met this guy, he’s an athelete and he’s in a fraternity and ever since she met him, that’s when my feelings for her really started to change. I found myself jealous of her being with him. Whenever she would talk about their relationship, I would just cringe on the inside but as her friend I never let that show because I never thought it was worth risking our friendship over. Although she always comes to me when she has her problems, she always ends up going back to him. Last year, he proposed to her and she accepted his proposal. I almost came close to telling her how I felt about her after she told me she was marrying this guy but I never got the words out, it just never seemed like the right time. They have yet to set a date and I’m wondering if I should go ahead and tell her before it gets too late. My heart does tell me that she feels the same but she’s just afraid of what may come of our relationship/friendship. What am I supposed to do?

  • I think that you should really think about your motives behind this. Simply because these feelings only came up when you found out that she was dating someone else. I think that you are a little jealous, and that’s okay. But I think that you might end up hurting your friend and yourself. What if she is happy with this guy? What if he’s “the one”? or What if she doesn’t have the same feelings for you? I think your really risking a lot here, but if you truly have feelings for her then why not.

  • WELL, I WOULD SAY FOLLOW YOUR HEART BUT WE ALL KNOW WHERE IT LEADS US SOMETIMES. BUT I UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WHAT YOUR SAYING CAUSE I FOUND MYSELF FALLING FOR A CLOSE FRIEND OF MIND HE KNOWS I LIKE HIM VERY MUCH BUT, I DONT THINK HE KNOWS HOW MUCH FEELINGS I REALLY HAVE INVOLVED,SO YOUR BEST BET IS TO TELL HIM AND GET IT OUT IN THE OPEN AND HOPE THAT THE FEELING IS MUTUAL. "JUST TELL HIM" SET YOUR FEELINGS FREE!!
