Recent Happenings In BP Oil Spill Catastrophe

It has been almost a year and a half since the explosion at the Deepwater Horizon oil rig caused one of the most extreme environmental catastrophes in history. Around five millions barrels worth of oil was released into the ocean after flowing freely for three months. The leak was finally plugged on July 15, 2010, but by that stage the damage was so extensive that it is estimated to cost BP $40.7 billion in cleanup operations.

In a recent inquiry into the disaster it was alleged that the crew of the oil rig ignored early disaster warning signals, which was a significant cause of the accident. The Marshall Islands, a small Pacific nation in which the oil rig was registered, executed the inquiry. They also determined that the engineering standards for the rig control were not up to standard. A report by the US Coast Guard echoed these findings, announcing “serious safety management system failures and a poor safety culture.”

The extent of the contamination to the marine environment has been so great that they are still making new discoveries of oil deposits over a year after the leak was stopped. Just recently fields of a tar-like material were found on the bottom of the water at Deer Island in the Gulf of Mexico. Fisherman made the discovery and reported it to BP who said they will now perform tests. Horn Island shares a similar fate, with chunks of an asphalt like material littering its beaches. BP have already cleaned Horn Island once before, but have now said that they will have to go back in and do it again. The BP spokesperson added that they have crews out everywhere now, looking for any signs of oil and recording the locations.

As many residents and business owners in the Gulf of Mexico may lose their livelihoods from this disaster, BP is facing a deluge of lawsuits. BP announced that they have already received 23,000 individual claims so far. Legal action can, however, be an expensive proposition for the thousands of low-income workers who have been affected by the oil spill. One legal aid office in North Florida now looks set to assist these people with news that they have received a grant for $200,000 to pay for the legal fees of anyone that wants to proceed with a claim against the energy giant. The grant was provided by an anonymous donor.

The cleanup and recovery from this catastrophe is set to go on for years, with many stories yet to emerge. Don’t get caught out of the loop. If you’re looking for an easy way to keep informed of news updates on the BP oil disaster, please take a look at this constantly updated world news site.

Insurance Fraudster Avoids Prison Term

Posted by TheRelationshipAdviceBlog | Posted in In the NEWS | Posted on 25-10-2010

A taxi driver from Essex has narrowly escaped going to jail after a number of offences including insurance fraud and contempt of court. Michael Seabrook admitted he was guilty of contempt of court after falsely claiming that he had been forced to take early retirement after an accident. His insurers moved to have him sentenced to a prison term for contempt at the high court but their request was withdrawn due to Seabrook’s ill health. Aviva, the insurance company covering him, withdrew the application although they said that it was intended to serve as a warning to the general public that insurance fraud was taken seriously and they could face jail if they lie when submitting claims for compensation for traffic accidents. A spokesperson for the company said: As the UK’s largest insurer, we are serious about cracking down on insurance fraud. If you commit insurance fraud, you could be pursued through the criminal courts with the possibility of going to jail.” companies offering year long term or temporary car insurance loose millions of pounds of policy holders money through fraudulent claims which goes toward keeping policies high.

But now Technology Means That the Slightest Driving Infraction Can Be Detected Immediately. Scanners which were invented for the Post Office can detect, read and report on vehicle’s registration plates and report back with any outstanding fines, unpaid tickets, lapsed insurance in an instant. The scanner doesn’t have to be aimed toward a suspect vehicleand ‘fired’, anything that passes within it’s field of view will instantly be checked upon, the systems interrogated and the results sent back in a trice. The car mounted units have proved useful in other areas as well, when a burglary is reported all vehicles coming and going are reported back upon, if a car happens to be around when a number of robberies have taken place the driver obviously becomes a person of interest to the police. If you are driving around in a car upon which even the temporary insurance has lapsed then these days it’s getting harder to get away with it, even for the short term car insurance is becoming expensive but so are the fines for not having any.

Hey everyone…As many of you may have already heard, an earthquake of 7.0 hit the island of Haiti, small Caribbean island found in the western hemisphere yesterday afternoon and it has been said by numerous sources that perhaps thousands have lost their lives, many people are left without shelter, clothing, food, and many are in desperate need of healthcare.

We cannot begin to imagine the toll this has taken on this very small island that has experienced numerous terrible hurricanes in the past and now this. Please say a prayer for those that are there and also for those individuals that have lost a loved one or haven’t been able to get in contact with their loved ones.

There are many people here in the States that have their loved ones living in Port au Prince or in cities near by that have been affected by this terrible tragedy. The things we talk about want to simply take some time and invite anyone that can to please donate whatever it is you can to either the Red Cross www.redcross.org or Wyclef Jean’s organization yele, which more information can be found on his website www.yele.org. Remember we all one race, the human race!

Thanks again,

The 2009 MTV VMA Rundown – Taylor Swift – Kanye West

Posted by TheAuthor | Posted in All Hottest & Latest Topics, Entertainment, General, In the NEWS, News | Posted on 14-09-2009

MUSIC-MTV/So the VMAs were held in New York this year and I think this was the best one of my time thus far. Madonna opened the VMA with the Michael Jackson tribute. She talked about Michael, their date, their friendship but most importantly how most of Michael’s friends abandoned him when he was going through his legal issues. I’m glad someone said it because they sure did!!! In the beginning they had dancers dressed in different Michael Jackson apparel who danced to his songs. I loved every minute of the tribute. After that Janet performed to their song “Scream” which was great. Janet killed the whole performance. While she performed she was edited out of the video while on the big screen you saw Michael and she performed onstage. She did their memorable dance in the video when they danced together. That was a heartfelt performance, I almost cried. Is it me or did MTV nail the Michael Jackson tribute better than BET… well some might argue that MTV had more time but I’m looking at the bigger picture, if you’re better at your craft; time frame shouldn’t play a big factor.

So Poor Taylor Swift never saw this one coming… lol Taylor Swift won best female video for “You Belong with Me” which is a good song but I don’t think it should have won and she looked surprised just like me. The other nominees were Beyoncé, Pink, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears so come on, but who doesn’t like an underdog. The competition was stiff but I didn’t expect her to win and so didn’t Kanye West. So while she’s saying her acceptance speech Mr. Ego aka Kanye West interrupts her and tells her his two senses about the situation. “Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time,” said Kanye. Wow… I felt so bad for her; she was so shocked that she couldn’t even finish her speech. DAMN KANYE another one bites the dust but one thing you can’t say is that he told the world HE GOTTA BIG EGO lol After that horrible experience Taylor had to perform right after which I can say was actually good. Kanye is Kanye nothing more or nothing less, you gotta love him for that.

Lady Gaga’s performance was good but disturbing. I personally like Lady Gaga and everything she does so I didn’t mind the whole blood thing because I like the song and I understood the whole concept. Tonight she was on her weird mode with her appearance, what she wore, and her date Kermit the frog. Lol WTF but despite all of that you can’t deny that this lady has skills. BTW was I the only one who noticed she made it her mission to wear panties on stage to put an end to the hermaphrodite rumors. I don’t know why they call beautiful singers who can dance hermaphrodites, her and Ciara need to do a song together lol

Beyoncé also performed “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” like always it was good. Being that Beyoncé is such a nice person once she won video of the year for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” she recalls winning her first VMA and calls out Taylor Swift to have her moment. AWWWW You can’t hate Beyoncé no matter how hard you try because she always does things like that. Lol I’m glad Taylor got to finish her acceptance speech.

Pink’s performance was good. She was on the rope things called trapeze flip and flopping and it was different. I loved how she copied Lil’ Kim and had a sticker of her nipple while she performed… I don’t blame her since her and Shakira wore the same outfit. Next time I bet she’ll bring a change of clothes… BTW she was with Carey Hart her ex-husband whom she wrote “So What” about… IDK their relationship is weird one day their together and the next day their not but hey at the end of the day it is what it is. I still love her.

So Jay Z closed the VMA with a performance with Alicia Keys. The performance was good and close to the end of the performance out of nowhere comes Lil Mama. WTF I don’t even think she was a part of the show. Jay Z didn’t even acknowledge her… DAMN seems to me like she tried to pull a Kanye but was unsuccessful LMAO.

The 2009 MTV VMA’s rocked, if you missed it try to catch a re-run. The host Russell Brand was funny. Overall it was good and the facebook and twitter updates made it even better lol Controversy makes good tv… hell live tv is always good tv also.
